It may make your visit a little longer, but we'll guide you through it!
Eye exams can be exhausting. Those two little eyeballs are like body black-boxes. We don't always know what we'll see when we look in. Be prepared for a visit length of around 2 hours.
This is where we confirm all your personal details and ensure the "paperwork of the past" is complete.
Oftentimes, for efficiency, we will obtain some baseline testing we can reference if those little black-boxes surprise us!
Our knowledgeable and skilled technicians will walk you through the baseline eye tests checking your vision (sometime in multiple ways), how your pupils react, how your eyes move, a screening visual field test and checking your eye pressure.
Yes, the one thing most patients are not fans of. We understand, dilation can makes things bright and blurry for a period of time. But think of searching a room using a flashlight instead of turning the lights on. It helps us, A LOT. We always respect your decision, so of course you can refuse dilation, but please understand this limits our abilities in many ways, and we don't recommend it.
Ahh yes, that lovely moment we bring our microscope uncomfortably close to your face and shine bright lights at you. Seems old school right, but its the best way we can see what's going on. It's called a slit-lamp, and its been around for a very long time. It doesn't take long, most cases less than a few minutes, and we promise, the light does not harm you!
That's what we call the finale. The point we put all our thoughts and mental work into a few "diagnosis codes." There are over 69,000 codes, like W55.51XA - Bitten by raccoon, initial encounter. Once we find the best for your situation, we then create a plan that is tailored to you. Often this requires us to work as a team to find a home regimen, medicine or surgery that you feel is right. We'll work together on this, don't worry.
There's no way to know if were on the right track if we don't stop and check in every so often. At this point, we'll determine an appropriate time to bring you back and make sure we feel, and most importantly, you feel, like we're heading in the right direction.
Don't forget us, we'll be thinking of you even after you leave.
Often times after your visit, we will revisit the whole exam and testing. This gives us a second look to make sure we still feel the same way. If anything were to change in our thoughts, we'll be sure to contact you.
Oh no, you remembered a crucial piece of information. Don't worry, reach out to us so we can update your chart, and re-think our plan to see if it warrants a change.
Don't forget to mark your calendar for the follow up visit. It'll be the only way we can change course if we need to. We'll be looking forward to seeing you back.
Please know that for any medical emergency, it is always recommend you contact 911 for emergency care.
